For Kimmy
Monday morning, and Max thinks he regrets just about everything about the weekend.
Of course, his birthday had come with a hell of a lot of drinking, grass and, eventually spending about half the night in bed with Brian. All things considered, it'd been a pretty alright way to ring in 24. But now, when Max rolls out of bed around noon, he groans as the light hits his eyes, his head pounding.
"...shit," he says to himself, squinting as he scrubs one hand through his hair. He's got to be getting old, he thinks, because he doesn't think he's ever been this hung over before.
No, that's a lie. Sometime after Doctor Robert's and the circus, after the drugs and booze had worn off, he'd spent a couple of miserable days drying out and sobering up before shipping out. But that was years ago, and Max sure as shit wishes he wasn't reliving it.
He hasn't decided if he's gonna call into work yet and take the night off— though he thinks Lucy probably won't give him much grief if he does— but thinks it's a decision best made after a strong cup of coffee.
Jesus, he doesn't even remember Brian waking up and heading to work.
Not awake enough to consider why he should maybe toss on a pair of pants before heading downstairs, Max climbs out of bed, still completely naked from whatever he and Brian got up to last night and pads out of the bedroom and downstairs to the kitchen.

Not that she hasn't eaten her fair share of mushy peas since she started working for his family, but it's somehow even more rewarding than the work back in New York. And while Brian is completely different from anyone she's ever met before, she likes him and the Carrigans, too.
She knows that there were celebrations over the weekend but she doesn't really think twice about it when she turns up to work on Monday, leaving Gus to sleep a little longer while she starts on his breakfast.
Or at least tries to, because suddenly there is a very naked man in the kitchen and she's a shade of red she didn't know existed.
And she doesn't know where to look. "Oh my gosh. I am... so sorry."

"Sorry. Shit," he repeats, and he turns, bolting into the downstairs bathroom.

He doesn't walk out into the open again until he's pulled them on and zipped them up, and he walks back into the kitchen to find mush all over the floor.
"You okay?"
Max's head is still killing him and he's the one asking if someone's okay.

She also doesn't normally start her day looking at penises, but she doesn't mention that part.

"Yeah, Brian would probably lose his shit if you did," Max says, remembering how Colleen used to be fucking crazy about keeping the apartment clean.

Maybe he should have picked up some good habits in the army, but mostly, he's tried to purge as much of that from his memory as possible.

At least they've managed to clean up the mess and Kimmy can only hope that Max doesn't bring it up to Brian how clumsy she's been. She's much more careful with Gus, of course, but he's much more precious than a bowl of baby food. Obviously.
"...I should go get the baby."

Jesus, he's never gonna drink that much again, if he can help it.
